Laser Therapy – Acupuncture Without The Puncture

Acupuncture is perhaps more accurately called meridian therapy.

Meridian points are treated using needles, electricity, finger pressure, heat or light (Laser). At Burswood Health we use needles and/or Laser.

Traditionally, acupuncture involves the use of fine needles that are inserted into specific points that lie along meridians, or energy channels. (Hence the term ‘acupuncture’). Modern technology has brought lasers into the field of meridian therapy. Laser therapy could be called the most modern form of acupuncture.

We often say that laser therapy is ‘acupuncture without the puncture’. It’s ideal for people who need acupuncture, but are afraid of needles!

Low Power Laser

Low power laser is quickly becoming a first line of attack in the area of tissue repair, rehabilitation and pain control. Our clinic uses low power infrared lasers which are safe, quick, easy to apply and absolutely painless. The results are often rapid and there are no side effects.

How do lasers work?

A laser beam interacts with tissue and causes certain photochemical reactions to occur. This stimulates natural biological processes. In much the same way that a car battery needs a “jump start”, a laser seems to stimulate the healing processes which may have become ‘stalled’ or ‘stuck’. A ‘jump start’ reaction may have beneficial side effects on the body which help to control pain and accelerate healing.

What conditions can Laser treat?

Laser therapy can be helpful in a variety of conditions such as:

  • pain – acute, chronic or post-operative
